Acting on “reliable secret information” that Harmeet was in possession of illegal arms and ammunition and was planning a crime in the Mohali area along with unknown associates, the SSOC registered an FIR on November 25, 2025, under sections 25(1) and 25(7) of the Arms Act and Section 61(2) of the BNS at SSOC police station, SAS Nagar.

Following the tip-off, SSOC teams launched a swift operation and conducted a targeted raid at the identified location, successfully apprehending Harmeet from the Mataur area of Mohali. During the operation, the police recovered a .32 bore pistol, five live cartridges, and also seized the black Verna car allegedly used by the accused.

The preliminary police interrogation revealed that Harmeet is a habitual offender with a history of serious criminal cases, including dacoity, Arms Act violations, and NDPS Act cases registered in Bathinda, Barnala, and Rohtak (Haryana). He also confessed to being involved in the smuggling of illegal weapons sourced through his contacts in Madhya Pradesh.

Significantly, the SSOC officials said Harmeet disclosed regular communication with foreign-based individuals, most notably Canada-based Prabhjot Singh Natt, alias Prabh Sialka of Batala, who is suspected to be acting under the influence of anti-national handlers abroad. Harmeet also admitted that foreign funds were transferred into his bank accounts by Prabh Sialka to facilitate unlawful activities. Police have begun analysing the financial trail to trace forward and backward linkages in the network.
