Lokesh had filed a missing person complaint at the Mulbagal rural police station on November 4, after his wife left behind a note mentioning that she did not wish to stay with him any longer and asked him not to search for her.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), Navyashri mentioned in the letter asking Lokesh to take good care of their daughter and that she would not return even if the police intervened.

After Lokesh filed a complaint, he went out with his daughter in the car around 8 pm, said the police.

The police later registered a case under Section 108 (abetment of suicide) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) based on the complaint of Venkataramappa, father of Lokesh.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Navyashri was in a relationship with another man, named Murali, from the same village, and she eloped with him on November 4 with her valuables.

Mulbagal rural police have summoned Murali and Navyashri for further questioning. “In the FIR, Venkataramappa has alleged that Navyashri often used to pick fights with Lokesh and curse him to die so that she could live peacefully. We will interrogate them after we produce them before the court,” a police officer added.
