(PTI)Salaries and pensions of government employees in Karnataka will see a major hike after the state Cabinet on Monday decided to implement the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission.
On Tuesday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah told the Legislative Assembly that a 31 per cent increase in the dearness allowance and 27.5 per cent fitment will be included in the basic pay of all employees and pensioners, starting August this year. “Due to this, the basic salary and pension of government employees will increase 58.5 per cent. House rent allowance will go up 32 per cent,” he said.
As a result, the minimum basic pay for government employees in Karnataka will increase from Rs 17,000 to Rs 27,000 and the maximum basic pay will be revised from Rs 1,50,600 to Rs 2,41,200. The minimum pension payout will change from Rs 8,500 to Rs 13,500 and the maximum pension pay will go up from Rs 75,300 to Rs 1,20,600.
The revision will also apply to teaching staff of aided educational institutions, employees of local bodies and non-teaching staff working in various universities of the state.
Siddaramaiah said that the total outgo for wage revision was Rs 20,208 crore. “The additional allocation for the same was provided in the 2024-25 Budget,” he said.
The Seventh Pay Commission was formed on November 19, 2022, which submitted its report on March 24 this year. Congress, in its manifesto for the 2023 polls, had said that it would implement the recommendations of the Commission if elected to power. Earlier this month, the Karnataka State Government Employees Association had threatened to protest if the recommendations were not implemented.
