Shivakumar said that the Congress government brought multiple schemes for the benefit of apartment owners. (File Photo)Seeking the support of apartment owners for the Karnataka Apartment Bill, 2025, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar recently remarked that he wants to leave behind a legacy for the city of Bengaluru.
“I have taken up the responsibility of Bengaluru development to bring change. I would like to leave behind a legacy for Bengaluru. We have taken up many projects that will change the face of the city. Two tunnel roads, 130 km Bengaluru Business Corridor and other projects are planned. PM Narendra Modi and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari have asked us to proceed with these projects,” Shivakumar said at a meeting of apartment owners’ associations.
Speaking at the meeting held at the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru, Shivakumar said, “Bengaluru has grown too big, and hence we have formed GBA for better governance. Nineteen per cent of Bengaluru residents are apartment dwellers. No government has tried to change the Apartment Act since it was introduced in 1972. Our government is trying to do that.”
“We are meeting apartment owners and residents to collect their feedback for the proposed (apartment) Bill. Those who have not been able to provide their suggestions may send an email… within the next 10 days. We are committed to the welfare of apartment owners,” Shivakumar further said.
The proposed apartment bill is intended to create dispute resolution mechanisms for apartments and also a “mechanism for the governance and operation of apartments,” including the use of common areas and facilities.
The Karnataka deputy CM said that he was unfazed by the lack of support for the Congress in Bengaluru in recent elections and added that the Congress government brought multiple schemes for the benefit of apartment owners.
“We have brought in Nambike Nakshe to ease the process of getting sanction plans for sites up to 50 x 80 square feet. We have introduced premium FAR and e-khata as well,” he said.
