Karnataka BJP MLC taken into custody for ‘using derogatory word’ against minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar

(Photos: X)Karnataka BJP MLC CT Ravi was taken into custody Belagavi Police on Thursday hours after an FIR was lodged against him for allegedly using a derogatory word against Congress Minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar.
Hebbalkar, the Woman and Child Development Minister in the CM Siddaramaiah-led government, lodged a police complaint with the Bagewadi police station accusing Ravi of using a derogatory word, minutes after the Council was adjourned.
A case has been registered under BNS sections 75 (sexual harassment) and 79 (insulting the modesty of a woman).
When Ravi was about to walk out of Suvarna Soudha in Belagavi, the police took him into custody and he was taken to the police station.
The incident took place around 1pm, when the House was adjourned following protest by Congress MLCs over Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on Dr B R Ambedkar in the Rajya Sabha during a debate on the Constitution.
Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti then adjourned the House. While Congress MLCs and ministers came into the well of the House, BJP MLCs also entered the well holding posters.
During the heated exchange of words, Hebbalkar accused Ravi of using a derogatory word, and also filed a complaint with Horatti.
Later in the day, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D K Shivakumar, Law Minister H K Patil and other leaders met Horatti, demanding action against Ravi.
