The Railway Ministry recently released a survey of cleanest railway stations in India in which railway stations from Karnataka are in the top 50 places. While the Yesvantpur station in Bengaluru was listed at number 30, Shimoga station ranked 37, Mysore and Krishnarajapuram stations ranked 47 and 48.
The railway cleanliness survey was done taking into account several parameters like solid and liquid waste management, cleaning activities, energy management, etc.
The Jaipur Junction has topped the list of cleanest stations by scoring 931.75 out of 1000. Yesvantpur station scored 867.29, Shimoga town station scored 861.37, Mysore station scored 855.50 and Krishnarajapuram station scored 854.49 respectively.
According to the ministry, the Indian Railways has been working to spread awareness about the importance of maintaining cleanliness at stations and in trains under the Swachh Bharat mission. Apart from the regular cleaning of platforms and station area, the national transporter is installing more dustbins and putting up posters to educate people about the importance of a clean railway station.
The survey covered 720 of the busiest stations in India, including suburban ones, expanding the scope of the annual audit from the previous 407 stations.
