Police have arrested a 35-year-old man who allegedly killed his wife and slept with her body for hours in Bengaluru.

Nethravathi, 32, was strangled with a saree by her husband Venkatesh following a fight over the latter’s drinking habit on the night of April 6 at Ranganathapura, according to the Kamakshipalya police.

Around 7 am on Sunday, their nine-year-old son tried to wake his mother up and cried loudly when she failed to respond. Their neighbours, who had initially intervened after the couple had started fighting, rushed to the house and found Nethravathi dead, according to the police.

The police, who were informed of the incident by the neighbours, arrested Venkatesh. They said he had confessed to the murder and that further investigations were underway.

According to the police, the murder took place around midnight after Venkatesh shifted his son, who was sleeping with his mother, to another place. As he was drunk, Venkatesh slept with his wife’s body, a police officer said.

Venkatesh and Nethravathi were married for 10 years. The police officer said the couple often fought over his drinking habit. Venkatesh worked in a garment factory.
