DK Suresh’s assets increased 75% in last 5 years, shows affidavit filed ahead of Lok Sabha elections

The total assets of Congress candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from the Bangalore Rural seat, D K Suresh, saw a 75 per cent increase in the last five years, swelling from Rs 338.87 crore in 2019 to Rs 593.04 crore in 2024.
A comparison of the affidavits submitted by Suresh for the 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha elections showed that his wealth had increased by Rs 254.17 crore — at an average rate of Rs 50 crore per year over the last five years.
Suresh is the brother of Deputy Chief Minister and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president D K Shivakumar, who had declared assets worth Rs 1,214 crore ahead of the Karnataka Assembly elections held in May last year. Suresh was the only Congress MP elected from Karnataka in 2019.
Moveable assets of the MP were valued at Rs 106.71 crore, which included Rs 86.37 crore paid to various persons and firms as personal loans. Most of the 72 acre agricultural land owned by the legislator, valued at around Rs 32.75 crore, was inherited, according to the affidavit.
Suresh also owns 27 non-agricultural lands, mainly in Kanakapura and Bangalore South taluk. These properties are valued at Rs 210.47 crore. Commercial buildings, which include two malls in Bengaluru, are worth Rs 211.91 crore. His three residential buildings are valued at Rs 27.13 crore, according to the affidavit.
Suresh’s liabilities have increased from Rs 51.93 crore in 2019 to Rs 150.06 crore in 2024. Rs 57.27 crore worth of liabilities, related to loans from banks and other financial institutions, are under dispute, he declared.
Suresh is up against BJP candidate Dr C N Manjunath, son-in-law of former Prime Minister and JD(S) leader H D Deve Gowda.
