(Express file photo)The Karnataka health and family welfare department on Wednesday issued a fresh Covid-19 advisory, advising citizens above 60 years to take precautionary measures to keep respiratory illnesses at bay. With 87 cases as of January 17, 2024, the active Covid-19 cases in the state have increased to 672 and one death has been reported in the last 24 hours.
The health and family welfare department commissioner D Randeep issued certain guidelines on Wednesday:
– Elderly persons (60 years and above), co-morbid persons (particularly with kidney, heart, liver, lung ailments, etc.), pregnant women and lactating mothers, would need to protect themselves and take all necessary precautionary measures to keep respiratory illnesses and Covid at bay this season.
– Such persons would also need to monitor their health condition on priority, and if they develop common symptoms of Influenza Like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI), they shall get tested at the nearest healthcare facility. If found positive for Covid, necessary treatment shall be obtained, preferably at the healthcare facility. If tested negative for Covid-19, medical advice and treatment would be necessary to ensure the symptoms of ILI/ SARI do not aggravate.

– Necessary cooperation shall be extended by the family members of the Covid patients to the doctors and staff visiting the patients under home isolation. The visiting teams would test all symptomatic close contacts as per the testing protocol and also advice on medical consultation/hospitalisation where necessary. Such suggestions/advice shall have to be complied with, in the interest of the health of the Covid-positive person, their close contacts and also the public at large.
