The 22nd edition of Chitra Santhe, organised by the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath, will be held on January 5, and the national art festival will adopt a hybrid model for the first time, with the online fair continuing for a month.

B L Shankar, director of the Parishath, informed the media on Saturday that approximately 1,500 artists from 22 states would showcase a rich tapestry of creativity at this year’s festival. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the one-day event on the Karnataka Chitrakala Parishath campus on Kumara Krupa Road, with additional stalls for senior citizens set up at the Seva Dal Ground.

Of the 3,177 applications received from 22 states, 1,420 paintings were selected. Of these paintings, 189 are the works of senior citizens, 152 are the works of disabled artists, 292 are the works of hobbyists, 769 are the works of professionals, and 18 are from art institutions. The virtual platform, accessible via http://www.ckpvirtualworld.in, allows artists to register and display up to 10 artworks for free. This online gallery will be available globally from January 5 to February 4, providing art lovers an extended opportunity to connect with creators.

This year, the girl child is the theme of the Chitra Santhe, highlighting child abuse and the challenges faced by girls. Shankar also acknowledged logistical issues, including space unavailability, which have led to restrictions in approvals for artist participation.

To ease parking concerns, BMTC will run feeder buses from the Majestic, Mantri Mall, and Vidhana Soudha Metro stations to Shivananda Circle. Visitors are encouraged to park vehicles at metro stations and use the bus service to reach the venue.
