CET 2023: Karnataka govt restores 9,000 engineering seats day after asking KEA to drop them amid violations by some colleges

S Ramya, director of the KEA, stated that the government has restored the seats subject to the condition that the colleges comply with obtaining the necessary no-objection certificates or approvals by the competent authorities.

Earlier, around 90 colleges bypassed the government and got approval for new engineering courses from Visvesvaraya Technological University and the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). As per the procedure, VTU has to send a Local Inquiry Committee (LIC) to colleges to inspect and approve the courses. Later, an approval has to be taken from the All India Council of Technical Education, followed by an issue of NOC (no-objection certificate) from the government. However, many of the colleges did not have the LIC report, following which the government refused to provide an NOC.

The option entry process for all the professional courses, including the medical, dental and engineering degree courses, will commence from the evening of August 5. The last date for option entry is August 9. The KEA has facilitated the provision of option entry simultaneously for all the courses.

Meanwhile, candidates who have completed their offline documents verification process and possess UGCET-23 evaluation slips, if they are eligible for getting admitted to medical courses by completing the registration process for UGNEET-23, should use the same secret key for option entry of medical courses.

Meanwhile, in what comes as a relief to the candidates, Sudhakar, after discussions with private colleges, has agreed to reduce the hike in the admission fees for government seats to 7 per cent after it was hiked by 10 per cent for engineering courses.
