Addressing the 25th year of the three-day Bengaluru Tech Summit (BTS) virtually, Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday said that India was no longer known for red tape but is a place that rolls out the red carpet for investors. “From reforming the foreign direct investment to offering the ease of doing business and increasing the production incentive schemes in various sectors, India’s excellent factors can bridge your investment and our innovation,” said Modi in his video message during BTS-2022.
Modi also highlighted that Bengaluru is the home of technology and thought leadership which has made the city innovative and inclusive.
He stated that India’s youth have ensured tech globalisation and talent globalisation across sectors like managers, finance, healthcare among others and that young Indians are using their talent for global good.
“India has jumped to 40th rank in 2022 from 81 in 2015 in the global innovation index. The number of unicorn startups has doubled since 2021 and there are over hundreds of companies that have set up their research and development centres in India,” PM Modi said.
He also stressed how broadband connections and smartphone users in India have increased multifold, especially in rural India.
Modi said that while technology remained an exclusive domain, India has democratised technology by introducing big initiatives and projects such as Aysuhman Bharat, Cowin portal, PM Gati Shakti scheme, Jan Dhan Yojana, Government E Marketplace (GEM), online education on robust tech platforms.
