Scientist’s car attacked in Bengaluru by 4 armed men, probe on

The scientist stated in his complaint to the Madanayakanahalli police that he was returning home from his office at around 12.45 am on August 24 when the armed men followed him near Ravuthanahalli.

Four unidentified machete-wielding men on two motorcycles allegedly attacked the car of a scientist on the outskirts of Bengaluru in the early hours of August 24 in a suspected road rage incident.

The scientist Dr Ashutosh Kumar Singh, 34, works with the Centre for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences under the Department of Science and Technology of the India government at Dasanapura on the outskirts of Bengaluru. He stated in his complaint to the Madanayakanahalli police that he was returning home from his office at around 12.45 am when the armed men followed him near Ravuthanahalli.

They allegedly tried to stop the car by smashing the rear windshield but the scientist did not stop until he reached his home even though the vehicle suffered damages. When he called the police helpline and reported the attack, he was told to file a formal police complaint with the Madanayakanahalli police, as per the FIR registered by the police.

The police filed a case under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections for criminal intimidation, causing mischief by damage, and wrongful confinement. They are looking at CCTV footage in the areas to establish the suspects’ identities.

“A narrow escape from local goons on Aug 24, 12:45 AM at Rauthanahalli Main road. They tried stopping my car, chased with swords, shattering back glass. Traumatized by the delayed police response. Seeking justice, lodging FIR at Madnayakanahalli PS today. urgent action is needed!” the scientist said on social media on August 27, ahead of registering the FIR.

He tagged the city police commissioner and senior police officials. He later thanked the police for taking up a case and expressed hope of a quick cracking of the case.
