Bengaluru hit-and-run case: engineer held under attempt to murder charges for injuring family

The incident occurred at approximately 7.11 pm on October 26, when Gowda was driving his Tata Curvv car on New BEL Road near M S Ramaiah Hospital. Ankita Patel, 31, her husband Vineth A, 33 and their son, residents of Vidyaranyapura, were travelling to Indiranagar on their Honda Dio scooter.

In the CCTV video, Gowda, who works with a private company in Whitefield, can be seen hitting their scooter from behind, which led the two-wheeler to crash into the divider.

While passersby rushed the family to M S Ramaiah Hospital, where they are being treated, Gowda allegedly fled from the spot.

The Sadashivanagar traffic police registered the case after receiving a Medico-Legal Case (MLC) report from M S Ramaiah Hospital. The traffic police then transferred the case to the Sadashivanagar Police Station after analysing CCTV footage, suspecting it was a deliberate act.

Inspector Girish launched a probe after the police registered a First Information Report (FIR) on November 6, and the suspect was arrested near Balaji Layout. The police have booked Gowda under Section 109 (1) (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

“We checked whether Gowda and Ankita’s family knew each other, but it has been ascertained that they are strangers. Though Gowda claims that he lost control of the power steering, we are further investigating the case to look into the matter. It appears that Gowda was not drunk at that point in time, but we are awaiting the medical report,” the officer added.

The police said Gowda has been sent to judicial custody, and a further investigation is underway.
