Fortunately, the driver noticed the fire and managed to deboard all the passengers from the bus in time. (Express)A Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus, traveling through a water-logged stretch in the city on Monday, went up in flames. The initial investigation suggested that a short circuit led to the incident.
A BMTC official said they suspect that the fire broke out since rain water entered the battery installed in the rear end of the bus.
The electric bus, plying on route number 500QA/9, was moving from Tin Factory to Goraguntepalya. It caught fire around 10.40 pm on the road connecting Veerannapalya and Hebbal junction.
Fortunately, the driver, Dasharath, noticed the fire and managed to deboard all the passengers from the bus in time. More than 12 people, including 10 passengers, escaped unhurt.
The BMTC, in a statement said that they are probing to find out the actual cause. “As the bus approached Kempapura, it suddenly lost power and came to a halt. The driver, Dasharath, and the conductor, Narasimha Raju, promptly ensured the safety of the passengers by transferring them to another bus.”
It added, “Subsequently, both the driver and the conductor began inspecting the vehicle to determine the cause of the malfunction. During the inspection, they noticed smoke emanating from the rear of the bus.
