Protesting “autocratic ways” of the state government, writers on Sunday gathered on the premises of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad and demanded autonomy for Gujarat Sahitya Academy (GSA).

Several writers are demanding autonomy for GSA since April when former IAS officer Bhagyesh Jha was nominated president of the Academy, without any election for the post.

The meet was addressed by well-known Gujarati writers such as Manishi Jani, Shirish Panchal, Bharat Mehta, Paresh Nayak and Raju Solanki.

At the meeting, they also resolved to expose those writers who have now “joined ranks” with the official body-led by GSA president Bhagyesh Jha. Jha was appointed as president of GSA soon after his retirement.
