Two members of the Paswan gang, allegedly involved in murder-cum-robbery of a jeweller in Surat, were ‘paraded’ in Sachin on Wednesday afternoon by Surat police officers, who took them to the scene of crime for a reconstruction.

Several people at C V Market on Sachin railway station road came outside their offices and shops when the police vehicles arrived, as many of them even recorded the ‘parade’ on their phones.

Police officers, including Sachin police inspector P N Vaghela, were present at the spot. The alleged robbers who were paraded were Sanjay Paswan and Avinash alias Rakesh Paswan who had handcuffs on as they walked bare feet with their heads bowed down. They walked for around 300 metres to reach the C V Market.

Sources said that it was the first time the shopkeepers in the area witnessed robbers being paraded.

A shopkeeper of CV Market said, “We knew about the robbery and murder of a jeweller at our market, but we could not see the faces of the accused. There was anger among people in the area as the victim, Ashish Rajpara, was a good man. People recorded videos today when the accused were being paraded, and shared those.”

The robbers were taken to the spot near C V Market where they had parked their bike on the day of the incident, before committing the crime. Later, they were also taken to Shrinathji Jewellers, the shop where they committed the robbery and fired two rounds at Rajpara while fleeing and two rounds, one each, at Ramesh Soni and Azim Shaikh, who tried to stop them from fleeing the spot, Sachin police sources said.

Talking to The Indian Express, Sachin police station inspector P N Vaghela said, “Till date, we have arrested three members of the Paswan gang of Bihar — Dipak Paswan, Avinash Paswan, and Sanjay Paswan. Dipak is presently in judicial custody and lodged at Surat Central Jail, while the four-day police remand of Sanjay and Avinash Paswan ended today. Today, we have carried out a reconstruction of the crime scene, and examined the roles played by the accused. The fourth accused in the case, Pintoo Paswan, is still at large. It was Pintoo who had shot Rajpara. Dipak, while fleeing from the spot, had fired rounds at Ramesh and Azim. The accused were made to walk for around 300 metres. Later in the afternoon, both were sent to judicial custody at Surat Central Jail.”
