Wait for five more days, says Met dept

Monsoon is going to elude the Central and North Gujarat regions, including the Ahmedabad district, for another four to five days.

The delay in Central,North Gujarat is due to lack of depression over the Bay of Bengal

Monsoon is going to elude the Central and North Gujarat regions, including the Ahmedabad district, for another four to five days.

According to the Met department, the delay is due to the lack of depression (low pressure system) over the Bay of Bengal.

This low pressure system brings rains to the Central and North regions of the state, besides the North-Western region.

Chief of the Indian Meteorological Department (Gujarat) Kamlajit Ray told The Indian Express that 70 to 80 per cent of the rainfall in the state took place when the low pressure system over the Bay of Bengal travelled towards the state.

“There is no possibility of the formation of the system for another four to five days,” she said.

Rainfall in the Saurashtra and South Gujarat regions in the last few days,Ray said, took place due to the offshore trough along the western coast.

Saurashtra and South Gujarat regions do not depend much on the low pressure system over the Bay of Bengal for rains, she added.

In the last decade, monsoon arrived in the state either in the last week of June or the first week of July.

“Going by this trend, monsoon would come to Gujarat on time,” Ray said.
