Congress leaders Shankersinh Vaghela and Arjun Modhwadia ended their 72-hour fast on the footpaths near the Sabarmati Ashram around 10 am on Tuesday, but not before vowing to launch a statewide stir to expose the Modi government’s alleged corruption.

The two Congress leaders had undertaken the fast to counter CM Narendra Modi’s Sadbhavana Mission fast.

Taking barbs at Modi’s Sadbhavna fast,Vaghela said it was not a upvas (fast) but uphas (mockery) of people which cost Rs 100 crore to the public exchequer.

Referring to the police lathicharge on some visitors outside Modi’s fast venue on Monday,Vaghela accused the CM of first inviting people and then insulting them.

Mohan Prakash, the central Congress leader in-charge of part affairs in Gujarat, said Modi had to announce his sadbhavna mission because it never existed on his agenda in his 10 years of rule in the state.

Leader of the Opposition in the state Assembly,Shaktisinh Gohil, likened Modi to Mahmood of Ghazni for allegedly looting Gujarat.
