Vadodara: M S University student from Bangladesh dies by suicide, friends cite ‘academic pressure’
The reason behind the suicide has not been determined yet, said police, adding she has made no accusations against anyone in the note she left behind.

A 20-year-old woman from Bangladesh, a first-year student of Faculty of Pharmacy at M S University in Vadodara, died by alleged suicide on Tuesday, police said.
Mohona Mandal died on the same day the first examination of her course was scheduled to take place, they added. Her body was discovered late at night at her accommodation in Raopura after her friends checked in on her following a call from her family members who were unable to contact her.
The reason behind the suicide has not been determined yet, said police, adding she has made no accusations against anyone in the note she left behind.
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Ashok Rathava, said, “The police teams rushed to the spot on receiving information of the suicide of a Bangladeshi national studying at M S University. A case of accidental death has been filed at Raopura police station and investigation is on. Her suicide note, primarily, seems to have been written in her handwriting and she has mentioned that no one is to be blamed for her decision.”
The post-mortem examination conducted Wednesday confirmed that Mandal had died due to asphyxiation, possibly from hanging.
Police said that Mandal’s body was discovered by her friends who are also from Bangladesh.
Friends cite ‘academic pressure’
While Mandal’s suicide note does not mention any reason for taking the extreme step, her friends have told the police that she had confided in them that she was “feeling pressured” due to academics and “was unable to cope with” the subject. Mandal had also missed her first exam conducted by the Faculty of Pharmacy earlier in the day.
One of Mandal’s friends said, “She had moved to M S University in September last year to pursue Pharmacy after securing 90% in Class XII exams back in her home country. She initially lived in the hostel but later decided to shift to an independent apartment in Raopura. One of her friends had her exam admission ticket but she did not turn up at the centre. After the exam, the friend tried to reach her but she remained unavailable. It was only late in the night when her parents contacted some of her friends and expressed their concern that they reached her flat and found her hanging…”
