In yet another road accident involving a Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) bus,two people died and 12 were injured on Monday night on the Rajpipla-Umarpada state highway.
The accident occurred after the bus skidded on a narrow bridge and struck a tree near Mandal village in Nanod taluka of the Narmada district at 8 pm on Monday.
The bus luckily did not fall into the stream,said the Narmada police officials who rushed to the spot.
One of the two persons who died on the spot was bus conductor Shantilal Parmar. The passenger who died in the accident has been identified as Kanu Vasava.
R M Patel,Narmada district collector,said: The family members of the deceased will be given Rs 5,000. But if the deceased is found to be an agriculture labourer,the family will get more compensation.
He said the deceaseds family can be offered the additional compensation under GSRTCs passenger insurance scheme.
Takhatsinh,the manager of the Rajpipla Bus Depot,said: The incident took place because of the hilly terrain and the driver Bahadur Vasava lost control over the vehicle.”
He said,”The GSRTC is preparing an investigation report and the compensation will be given according to the findings.
Meanwhile,the Ripple Civil Hospital authorities said that all the injured persons who were admitted to the hospital had minor injuries.
Khurshid Ahmed,the Superintendent of Police,Narmada district,said: The Police arranged for special equipment to rescue the passengers from the bus shattered in the accident.
He said it took the police nearly five hours to bring out the passengers safely from the bus.
The number of casualties was low as the bus was not overcrowded, said Ahmed.
