Tight security in state for R-Day

Security has been stepped up in the state on the eve of Republic Day.

Security has been stepped up in the state on the eve of Republic Day. Senior Gujarat police officers have been put on alert to keep round-the-clock vigil in areas under their jurisdiction.

Patrolling by the city and district police officers has been organised in all major cities and towns of the state. Special squads of city and district police have been formed for constant patrolling.

Personnel from the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) and the Home Guards Department have been put on task. The City and Traffic Police will be responsible for ‘nakabandi’ on all major highways and roadways connecting Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad to other cities.

The Traffic police will conduct checks on vehicles,especially heavy motor vehicles,while the Highway police will check the in-bound and out-bound traffic in all major cities of the state.

Extra police force has been deployed in the sensitive areas in Ahmedabad including Dariapur,Calliper,Shaper,Jamesport and Gomtipur.

Besides,security has been stepped up at the state secretariat (sachivalaya) and other government buildings in Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad,Sardar Patel International Airport,Kalupur and Maninagar railway stations,GSRTC bus stand and religious places.

Shobha yatra today
The state government will take out a ‘Shobha Yatra’ at Surendranagar today as part of the Republic Day celebrations.

Chief Minister Narendra Modi will flag it off.

The Gujarat Police have deployed two additional units at Surendranagar for the security at the venue. Last year,the Chief Minister had flagged off the yatra at Godhra during the Republic Day celebrations.
