A five-month pregnant woman died of swine flu at the New Civil Hospital in Surat on Wednesday. The state death toll is now 15.
Hospital sources said Sima Gupta,28,started complaining of fever and cough on August 21,when she visited a private physician at Sandhya Hospital in Kim,Surat district.
On September 6,Guptas condition deteriorated. She complained of breathlessness and was admitted at Dinbandhu Private Hospital,Kamrej,Surat. The same evening,she was admitted to New Civil Hospital,Surat as she didnt show any sign of improvement.
Gupta was administered Tamiflu tablets from the day of admission,but her condition didnt improve,sources said. The main cause of death was respiratory failure,septicemia,septicemic shock,Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS),with bilateral consolidation of lungs with five months of Pregnancy,in case of Influenza A H1N1 positive,” a state Health and Family Welfare Department official said.
At the time of admission,the patient was complaining of cough,coriza,sore throat,high grade fever and increased breathlessness,sources added.
