Surat sees 4 murders within 24 hrs

One person was killed in a shootout on Wednesday,after two gangs — Ekta Yuvak Mandal,headed by Suresh Puwar,and Kumkum Singh’s group — fought over who would be the first one to immerse Ganesh idol.

The incident took place at Singhanpore near Ved Road. Police sources said that Kumkum’s men attacked Suresh’s group with knives,and he also fired with a country made gun,killing one Rakesh Gaekwad who was seated on the truck carrying Ganesh idol. Suresh and Manoj Puwar were critically injured in the incident. When the police reached the spot,Kumkum and his men had fled. Both Suresh and Kumukum are history-sheeters.

Since Tuesday,this was the fourth murder reported in Surat. The first incident of murder took place near Ganesh pandal of Vinayak Chowk in Varachha,where Jignesh Kharad (27) was stabbed to death by two men after a heated argument. The police said that the accused are yet to be identified.

The second incident took place in Pandesara where grocery shop owner Vishnu Behra (60),originally from Orissa,was killed by Dandpan Jadagora and his friend,following an argument over payment. The police said that the accused are absconding.

In the third incident,Naresh Swai (27),a resident of Bhestan,was beaten to death by unknown persons at Panchsheel Nagar in Khatodara. The police said that Naresh was a notorious persons and had been acquitted in a triple murder case nine months ago.
