New Civil Hospital Superintendent Dr M K Wadhel said: “We have spared a special ward in the hospital and even the hospital staff have been trained to deal with such patients. Extra care has been taken to ensure that normal patients don’t come in contact with swine flu patients.”

District Collector Dilip Rawal said: “We are in regular contact with the district health officials and New Civil Hospital doctors. All the agencies are on their toes and people coming from Maharashtra, especially from Pune, are being checked and examined at the New Civil Hospital.”

He added: “We have seen awareness among the students who are studying in Pune and are returning to Surat. They themselves get checked at NCH. We have also contacted the textile traders association to inform us if they find any businessmen coming from Pune and other swine flu affected areas of Maharashtra.”
