Modi is expected to address a public meeting in Limbayat, Surat, on Friday evening.

The Surat police department officials were carrying out a rehearsal of the convoy route to ensure there were no lapses in the security.

During the rehearsal on Thursday evening, when a convoy was passing through Limbayat main road, the boy riding a bicycle was spotted by the police. The convoy continued its journey, but a police sub-inspector stationed on the main road caught hold of the boy.

The video, shot from above, purportedly shows the boy being beaten by the cop.

On Friday, Deputy Commissioner of the Surat police traffic department, Anita Vanani, said the cop’s duty had been changed from the PM security bandobast to the Surat police control room.

Later, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Special Branch, Hetal Patel, issued a press note saying that PSI B L Gadhvi had been sent to Morbi.

“Such behaviour cannot be tolerated and we have written to the Superintendent of Police, Morbi, requesting to stop one-year increment of the PSI,” Patel said.

On Friday, the Limbayat police identified the boy and brought him to the police station to record his statement. Police sources said he recently came to Surat from Nepal and was staying at a relative’s home.
