Surat cop caught red-handed while taking bribe of Rs 1 lakh
Assistant Director of Surat ACB R R Chaudhary said, “Banaskanta ACB officials caught Athwalines police station PSI Lalit Purohit red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh.”
According to the FIR, after depositing the rent for April and May, Rupchandani stopped making the payment.A sub-inspector working with Surat Police landed in the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) net as he was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh, said officials on Thursday. The accused allegedly demanded the bribe from the complainant to not register a criminal case against him.

According to officials, a textile businessman from Rajasthan was recently accused of cheating. After receiving the call from Athwalines police station, the businessman came to Surat to get his statements registered. Purohit allegedly demanded Rs 3 lakh bribe from him to not register a case against him. After bargaining between them, the deal was allegedly finalised at Rs 1 lakh.
The businessman, however, contacted the Banaskantha ACB office and registered a complaint against Purohit. Banaskanta ACB then caught the sub-inspector red-handed. Purohit was arrested and booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
On Thursday afternoon, Purohit was produced before Surat district court which granted a police remand of one day.
