BJP leader and Gujarat Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary was unanimously re-elected on Friday as the chairman of Banas Dairy, Gujarat’s biggest milk cooperative.
“Our board unanimously elected me as the chairman and Bhavabhai Rabari as the vice-chairman of the dairy,” Chaudhary told reporters after the election of the Banaskantha District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union concluded. The Union has 18 board members and is one of the 18 district milk unions in the state.
Chaudhary has been the chairman of Banas Dairy after he replaced Parthi Bhatol in 2015. He continued to hold the position after being appointed as Gujarat Assembly’s Speaker in December. He is expected to continue as the Banas Dairy chairman for the next two-and-a-half years.
He was unanimously elected Friday after the BJP issued a mandate for its members regarding the party’s pick. Party leaders Jayanti Kavadiya and Bipin Patel travelled to Banas Dairy for the polls. “We carried the party’s mandate for the meeting today. The decision was made by the party president,” said Jayanti Kavadiya, who is vice-president of the party in the state.
Shankar Chaudhary, while talking to mediapersons, said Banas Dairy is giving Rs 35 crore daily to dairy farmers in the district. The dairy alone collects Rs 80 lakh litres of milk every day.
