The second suspected swine flu case reported in the state was confirmed negative on Friday. A 30-year-old woman residing in the Navrangpura area in Ahmedabad, who had recently been to New Jersey in the US,was suspected of carrying the H1N1 virus.
The Health Department had reportedly tracked her down after being informed by a local physician whom she had consulted for cold. The officials visited her house in Navrangpura and convinced her to get admitted for the tests.
The woman was admitted to the V S (Sheth Vadilal Sarabhai General) Hospital in Ahmedabad and kept in isolation, while her family members were requested to remain confined within the house for 48 hours.
Later,on Saturday morning, she was released after tests proved negative.
This was the second suspected swine flu case in the state; the first being that of an 11-year-old girl from Michigan who had flown down to Ahmdeabad last week.
Principal Secretary (Health) Ravi Saxena said: Both cases have been detected negative for the virus. The patients had displayed certain signs of the virus, but they turned out to be cases of simple cold and respiratory tract infection. Keeping patients in the isolation ward is a protocol requirement for the test of H1N1 virus. There is no reason to be scared now.
