THE CBI on Monday sought three months time from the Gujarat High Court to conclude its probe in the Sadiq Jamal encounter case.
Earlier,the court had asked the central agency to complete the probe and submit its report by October 2 while observing that its (Gandhi Jayanti) a great day for the truth to come out.
Today,investigating officer Satish Rathi filed an application before the court saying the investigation had entered a crucial stage and that they needed some more time to wrap it up.
The court is likely to decide on the matter in a couple of days.
In June,the High Court had granted the agency three months to complete the probe. Since then,the CBI has made two crucial arrests in the case,including Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Tarun Barot and Mumbai-based former journalist Ketan Tirodkar.
Sadiq Jamal Mehtar,a youth of Bhavnagar city,was killed near the Galaxy cinema in Ahmedabad on January 13,2003 by Detection of Crime Branch officials,claiming he was a Lashkar-e-Taiba operative on a mission to kill Chief Minister Narendra Modi and some other leaders.
