As part of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) centenary celebrations, 2.1 lakh volunteers will take part in outreach programmes covering 90 lakh houses across 18,000 villages of Gujarat, people familiar with the matter said on Monday.
“As a part of the Ghar Sampark programme, 2.1 lakh volunteers will reach out to 90 lakh houses, covering 18,000 villages in 23 days,” RSS Western Region Sanghchalak Dr Jayantibhai Bhadesia said.
Sharing details of the programmes, Dr Bhadesia during a media briefing on Monday said: “ On Vijayadashami (October 2), 672 programmes will be held at the taluka and city level with an expected participation of 1.65 lakh volunteers”.
“As part of the celebrations, 4,670 Hindu Sammelans will be organised during which about 13.70 lakh people will participate. There will be 571 Sadbhaav Sammelans, in which about 16,600 people will participate,” Dr Bhadesia added.
Public meetings will be organised at 92 places with prominent people of the society in attendance and at least 2,000 people are expected to take part in the same.
“To increase the activity of national work among the youth, youth Sammelans will be held at 580 places in which 87,000 volunteers will participate. The Sangh has planned to hold shakhas at maximum places during the centenary year,” he added.
As of now, daily 2,421 shakhas are held in Gujarat, of which 1,247 are student shakhas and 1,174 are professional shakhas, according to the information. The number of weekly shakhas is 1,612 and monthly shakhas is 8,44. Dr Bhadesia said that for the overall “progress of the nation and social change, activities on the topics of ‘Panch Parivartan’, including family education, environment, social harmony, indigenous and civic duties will be carried out in the centenary year”.
