“GST collection has become a key indicator of the country’s economic health, making a substantial contribution to government revenue. Gujarat has set a new record in GST revenue collection, driven by robust economic activities, including increased domestic consumption and production, along with industry-friendly policies, rapid improvements in the ease of doing business, and an efficient tax collection mechanism. This reflects Gujarat’s unwavering commitment to advancing towards the vision of Viksit Bharat,” a release by the state government stated.

GST was introduced on July 1, 2017 by the Centre, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to streamline India’s tax system. It is an indirect tax levied on the manufacture, sale, and consumption of goods and services throughout the country.
