Alleging delay in salary payment, Rajkot bus drivers go on strike for few hours
RMTS, which is run by Rajkot Rajpah Limited, a special purpose vehicle of the RMC, has a fleet of around 120 buses. Among them, 75 are electric buses.

Drivers of Rajkot Mass Transport Service (RMTS), the city bus service provider, went on a flash strike on Monday morning, alleging that the private firm they work for was not paying them regularly. However, the drivers withdrew their strike in the afternoon after Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) officials directed the private contractor to resume service by sorting out the issues concerning the drivers.
Drivers of 75 electric buses operated by Narayana City Bus Operations Privately Limited, a subsidiary of PMI Electro Mobility Private Limited on behalf of RMC, assembled at the RMC bus depot early Monday but refused to work. They alleged that the company was paying them between 12th and 18th of every month and had not been regular with crediting salaries into their accounts. They demanded that the company pay regularly and in the first two weeks of every month.
“There were delays in payment of drivers’ salaries due to issues like availability of funds and some other internal matters. We persuaded drivers that they will be paid in some time. But they insisted on meeting all their demands and went on a flash strike,” an executive of the company told The Indian Express.

As the strike continued beyond midday, RMC officials instructed the private operator to resolve the matter. “This a matter concerning the electric bus operator we have hired. It has arose due to issues over payment of salaries. The RMC officials have held meetings with both agencies, the one providing drivers and the other operating the bus,” Municipal Commissioner Anand Patel told mediapersons.
“It is expected that salaries should be paid regularly… We will take necessary action to ensure that such issues, especially about payment of salaries, does not arise in future,” he added.
Following RMC’s intervention, drivers called off their strike and resumed duty. Consequently, electric buses started plying on city roads in the afternoon.
