Purported videos of a Gujarat BJP leader calling the reservation policy a “headache” in the country have gone viral on social media.
The alleged statement was made by BJP state secretary Naukaben Prajapati while delivering a speech at the flag-hoisting ceremony on Republic Day organised by Bhabhar Municipality in Banaskantha district, on Sunday. The Indian Express has not independently verified the authenticity of the video.
In the video, Prajapati, who is also a resident of Bhabhar, could be heard purportedly saying in Gujarati, “On the basis of politics, the policy of appeasement and votebanks, we have not been able to abolish reservation. And we know that currently, reservation has been a headache.”
Prajapati could also be heard saying, “Today, a small country like Israel is strongly fighting against Muslim countries. It is because patriotism is full in the citizens of that country.”
An official of Bhabhar Municipality said that the flag-hoisting event was organised at the Azad Chowk locality of Bhabhar on January 26, and Prajapati was invited to the same as a local leader. The flag hoisting was done by the president of the municipality, Sakarba Rathod.
Prajapati could not be contacted despite repeated attempts. So far, Gujarat BJP has not made any public statement on the issue.
