While the reports of three people suspected of cholera are still awaited, the District Health Department has reported one more case of diarrhoea and vomiting on Monday at Waghodia after the outbreak of gastroenteritis caused by water contamination.
The health department,in the past three days, has checked over 7,000 people.
The samples of three persons suffering from diarrhoea and vomiting have been sent to the Public Health Laboratory as suspected cholera cases. While their reports are still awaited, the district health officials said slow progress in repair work in the area by GIDC officials is likely to worsen the problem.
The outbreak of gastroenteritis is bound to happen again if water distribution is not checked. The water pipelines are badly damaged. The GIDC should replace them as only repairing of the lines will not solve the problem, said Dr V Birla,Medical Officer,Epidemic.
He said,Water distribution should have a chlorination plant. We have repeatedly asked them to install one with the grants made available with them.
A round-the-clock OPD is being run at Waghodia. The situation is under control and the number of the new cases is declining. No one has been admitted in hospital on Monday, said Birla.
