Rath yatra countdown starts with jal yatra

The jal yatra kicked off the 136th Jagannath rath yatra scheduled for July 10,in Ahmedabad Sunday morning.

The jal yatra kicked off the 136th Jagannath rath yatra scheduled for July 10,in Ahmedabad Sunday morning. With some development at the Sabarmati riverfront,this year,for the convenience of devotees,the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has prepared a platform and entrance gate leading to the riverfront.

This year,development of the Sabaramati riverfront helped devotees perform the ritual conveniently, said Kirit Solanki,Ahmedabad (West) MP.

Adding to this,Khadia BJP MLA Bhushan Bhatt said,With the riverfront development underway,we are hoping next year,the yatra will be at a larger scale.

Other invitees included Standing Committee chairman Bhupendra Patel and deputy mayor Ramesh Desai.

The jal yatra started early Sunday morning from Lord Jagannath temple in Jamalpur to Sabarmati riverfront and back to the temple with hundreds of devotees and a grand procession including elephants and colourful flags.

Jagannath temple trustee Mahendra Jha said with the Lords maha abhishek with the holy Sabarmati water,the jal yatra marks the start of the rath yatra.

To carry on the tradition of Lord Jagannath,his elder brother Balaram and sister Subhadra visiting their maternal uncles place,the idols were taken to Ranchhodji Temple in Saraspur.
