However, the injured policeman succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment later in the evening.
A police constable was killed after he was allegedly hit by a police car which was chasing suspected bootleggers near Adesar in Rapar taluka of Kutch district late on Saturday evening.
The incident took place when constable Hasmukh Mundh (30) was standing near Varudimata temple in Adesar area. The constable was waiting to intercept a car after Adesar police were tipped off that a car loaded with liquor was to pass from there. Mundh, an unarmed constable, signalled a black-coloured Scorpio car to stop at around 4.30 pm.
However, the Scoripio car suddenly changed its course. But a car of Adesar police which was chasing the suspected car hit Mandh who was standing on roadside.

The accident left the constable seriously injured. He was rushed to Vagad Welfare Hospital in Bhachau town of Kutch. However, the injured policeman succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment later in the evening.
“The driver of the police car could not respond in time after the Scorpio took a curve. This led to the accident,” Adesar Police Sub-Inspector Vishnu Chaudhary said on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the police finally intercepted the car in Bhuj town in the wee hours of Sunday. The driver of the car subsequently led police to Balabiya village in Bhuj taluka where he had unloaded 403 bottles of liquor. The police said three persons, including the driver of the car, were arrested.
On the other hand, Adesar police booked its own police constable Pradip Chaudhari who was driving the police car which hit Mandh, for causing death by negligence and rash driving.
