PIL asks Advani to put electorate before party

A senior citizen has filed a Public Interest Litigation in the Gujarat High Court seeking a direction to BJP leader and Gandhinagar MP L K Advani to give preference to his electorate over his party.

A senior citizen has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Gujarat High Court seeking a direction to BJP leader and Gandhinagar MP L K Advani to give preference to his electorate over his party. He has said that Advani has remained loyal to his party and not to his electorate.

K D Pandya (80),a resident of Vejalpur in Ahmedabad, and a voter of Gandhinagar constituency, appeared before the court as the party-in-person.

He said that MPs in the country take important decisions without consulting their electorate. There is no participation on the part of the citizens in the decision-making process. As such,MPs should be directed to take a referendum before taking important policy decisions,he said.

Pandya has also demanded to adopt practices as are prevalent in European countries like Switzerland, where referendum is taken before the leaders take important policy decisions.

Pandya has sought the court’s direction to the veteran leader to implement this procedure in Gandhinagar.

He has further mentioned in the petition that Advani can build an electorates’ forum in Gandhinagar, which can deliberate on various issues and recommend solution to Advani. Pandya runs an NGO,Gandhi Swaraj – Justice for Voters.
