Severe thunderstorm, lightning, rainfall likely on Tuesday: IMD

Over 50 talukas in Gujarat received rainfall, with hail and thunderstorm at a few places, on Monday evening.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD), in a forecast, said that severe thunderstorm with lightning and surface winds at 60-70 kmph with hailstorm are likely in the state for Tuesday and Wednesday.
Talukas in districts of Bhavnagar, Gandhinagar, Kheda, Vadodara, Anand, Botad, Banaskantha and Aravalli were the worst-hit.
Sihor in Bhavnagar received the highest rainfall at 37 mm in two hours from 6pm to 8 pm, followed by Bhavnagar taluka recording 27 mm between 4 pm and 8 pm on Monday.
While Gandhinagar city received thunderstorm with hail, Mansa in Gandhinagar received 24 mm rainfall, Nadiad in Kheda 22 mm and Vadodara 20 mm, Deodar in Banaskantha and Sojitra in Anand 19 mm, Kapadvanj and Vaso in Kheda recorded 6 mm rainfall.
Following a dust storm in Ahmedabad city, over 40 complaints regarding falling of trees were registered by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC).
As per IMD, on Tuesday, severe thunderstorm with lightning and surface winds at 60-70 kmph speed (in gust) accompanied by moderate to heavy rain are expected in districts of Gandhinagar, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Chhotaudepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi and in Daman, Dadara Nagar Haveli; in Saurashtra districts of Surendranagar, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Botad.
“Hailstorm very likely at isolated places in the districts of Gujarat region namely Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Panchmahal, Dahod and Mahisagar; in the districts of Saurashtra-Kutch namely Rajkot, Morbi and Kutch,” the weather department’s forecast for Tuesday stated.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also expected in Banaskantha and Kutch districts, while heavy rainfall is likely in Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Anand, Narmada and Bharuch; in Saurashtra districts of Surendranagar and Morbi.
“Severe thunderstorm with lightning and surface wind 60- 70 kmph (in gust) accompanied with moderate to heavy rain very likely Banaskantha, Patan, Sabarkantha; Surendranagar and Kutch Mehsana, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Morbi, Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Botad. Heavy rainfall is expected Banaskantha, Patan, Sabarkantha; Surendranagar and Kutch,” the IMD forecast for May 7 stated.
It is expected to recede on May 8, with “moderate thunderstorm with lightning and surface wind 50- 60 kmph (in gust) accompanied with moderate rain very likely in Sabarkantha, Aravalli and Anand, Amreli and Bhavnagar, Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Gandhinagar, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Morbi, Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Botad, Kutch. Heavy rainfall likely in Aravalli and Anand, Amreli and Bhavnagar”, the forecast stated.
On May 9, it will be reduced to light thunderstorm, the weather department said.
