Three major municipal wards in Mumbai suburbs are set to record low water pressure for five consecutive days during the Christmas week, as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will start reconnecting a water supply line that was earlier diverted due to the Metro Line 7A works.

BMC officials said the three wards – G/North (Dadar, Mahim, Matunga and Dharavi), H/East (Bandra East, Santacruz East), and K/East (Andheri East and Vile Parle) – are set to experience low water pressure from 10 am on Monday (December 22) to 1 pm on Friday (December 26).

“Owing to the construction of the Metro 7A line, we had to divert a 2,400 mm water supply channel, which is a crucial water supply network. Now we will reconnect the two lines for which the water supply will be temporarily stopped to prevent any future loss of water,” the BMC said in a statement.

The civic officials said that since the work will involve excavation followed by the joining of water mains, the authorities will be taking nearly four days to complete the drive.

‘The work will be taken up in a phased manner to ensure that we don’t have to stall the supply of water entirely, and there is no prolonged hindrance to citizens. Instead, we will carry out controlled water supply at low pressure; therefore, citizens are requested to use water carefully during these few days,” a civic official said.

Prior to this, between December 8 and 9, 17 of the 25 municipal wards in Mumbai experienced a water cut as the BMC had undertaken works to replace a 2,750-mm pipeline.
