More than 1.34 lakh students appeared for the Gujarat Common Entrance Test (GUJCET) conducted by the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) held across the state Sunday.

Despite additional precautions and security a candidate was caught with a mobile phone in the first session during the Physics and Chemistry exam in Jamnagar. A case has been registered against the candidate.

“We had taken additional precautions and security measures owing to the Lok Sabha elections where the district collectors have also asked to keep a check over the exam centres,” GSHSEB vice-chairman Dinesh Patel told The Indian Express.

To check malpractices, 673 exam buildings across 34 centres — all 33 districts and Ahmedabad city — were under CCTV surveillance.
The test was divided into three sessions — Physics and Chemistry, Biology, and Mathematics. No other case of malpractice was reported from any other centres.

Of 1.38 lakh candidates who registered 1.34 lakh (97.41 per cent) attended the first session. The second session saw 85,051 (97.8 per cent) of the total 86,962 registered candidates appearing for the exam, while 49,779 (96.5 per cent) of the 51,581 registered students sat for the third session.

GUJCET exam is conducted for admissions to degree engineering courses and degree and diploma pharmacy courses in government, grant-in-aid, and self-financed institutes of Gujarat. The exam is held in Gujarati, Hindi and English.
