Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) will follow the National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT) course curriculum format from next year,a senior education board official has said.

Next year,GSHSEB will also implement the semester system in Class IX across Gujarat for which necessary changes will be made.

K R Zanzrukia,Secretary,Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board, said: “We have initiated the process of revising the course. The formulation will be carried out by the Gujarat School Textbook Board. We have decided to keep the module as per the NCERT curriculum.”

He added: “In the semester system, the students will appear for the exam twice a year. Next year, the semester system will be implemented in all schools across Gujarat.”

He said the move will align the curriculum with the changes being incorporated in the Class X examination pattern.

“We are already carrying out the changes on a pilot basis in a group of schools in Ahmedabad,” he said.”

He added: “GSHSEB has decided to give equal weightage to objective and subjective question in Class X. Fifty percent of the paper will contain objective questions which will be answered in the Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) system and the remaining part of the question paper will be in the subjective pattern. We are working on the weightage pattern so that each part is reflected properly. It will be decided in a week.”

From this year onward,GSHSEB will conduct the examination in five major papers in Class X.

The subjects will include Mathematics,Science,Social Science,English and Gujarati. The exams for the other two optional papers will be conducted by the individual schools.

“The marks of the optional papers will show on the mark sheet, but the students will receive their grades only on the basis of marks obtained in the five major papers. We do not envisage the students to face any problem with the marking pattern,” he said.
