Naxal links: Dangs activist remanded in 7-day custody

A local court remanded Avinash Kulkarni,an activist working with the Adivasi Mahasabha in Dangs district,in police custody till Monday.

A local court remanded Avinash Kulkarni,an activist working with the Adivasi Mahasabha in Dangs district,in police custody till Monday. Kulkarni was arrested on Sunday for alleged Naxalite links. He is also believed to be a member of the banned outfit,CPI ML Janshakti. Two others were also arrested with him from Ahwa.

On Tuesday afternoon,the police produced Avinash before the Kathor Court and sought a 14-day remand.

Meanwhile,the police have started detaining people involved in tribal movements as also having alleged Naxalite links,in Surat and Tapi districts. The number of detentions have,however,not been confirmed. Surat Range IG A K Singh said: “We are working slowly and steadily. We don’t want to jump to any conclusion. We have some evidence against Kulkarni; so we have picked him up and are interrogating him. We have got names of several people who are active in CPI ML Janshakti and they will be picked up gradually. At present,we are collecting the details about the movements of CPI ML Janshakti cadres from those arrested. We are collecting evidence to make our case strong.”
