Narcotics drugs worth over Rs 100 cr seized from Mundra
Tramadol export is restricted under the provisions of Narcotic Drug and Pshychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act.

Two consignments of illicit narcotic drugs worth more than `100 crore that were being allegedly exported to Western African countries of Sierra Leone and Niger were seized by the customs department in Mundra, the office of the Principal Commissioner of Customs in Kutch said in a statement Sunday.
The seized consignment contained Tramadol tablets that has gained notoriety as the ‘fighter drug’ after it was reported that ISIS fighters used it to stay awake for long hours. Follow-up searches are underway at Rajkot, Gandhinagar and Gandhidham following the seizure, the release added.
Tramadol export is restricted under the provisions of Narcotic Drug and Pshychotropic Substance (NDPS) Act. The seizure is considered as among the largest of Tramadol since it was notified under the NDPS Act in 2018.
Acting on intelligence inputs, the two export consignments of a Rajkot-based merchant exporter that was declared as diclofenac tab and gebedol tab were “intercepted and examined”, the release stated.
“While the declared item was found in the front end of the container, detailed examination revealed boxes containing undeclared medicine strips bearing labels of ‘Tramaking 225 and ‘Royal-225’ both containing Tramadol Hydrochloride Tablet 225 mg. Neither the strips nor the boxes had any details of the manufacturer. Around 68 lakh tablets of Tramadol with an International Street Price of around `110 crore were recovered,” it added.
