As per a report compiled by the Election Commission of India (ECI) on May 24, Gujarat ranked the highest when it came to the value of seized drugs, which amounted to Rs 524.35 crore, during the period when the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) was in effect in 2019.
The study observed that drug abuse patients who consulted dental professionals for major oral health problems stayed in treatment almost two times longer and had recorded 80 per cent increase in chances of completing the drug abuse treatment.
Speaking at the inaugural event of International Womens’ Day at Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan here today, Chief Minister Deb claimed a majority of violence against women were found to have occurred after use of drugs.
The move comes after the ministry withdrew the draft National Drug Demand Reduction Policy from the Cabinet. It had been pending for more than five-and-half years and was redrafted twice during the period.
As per a draft policy document, studies conducted in recent years have shown an “alarming” shift in the pattern of substance use in the state, in terms of the rise in the number of women users, decreasing age at first-use, as well as rising drug-related deaths.
Before attaching the property of a drug smuggler, the state police have to seek permission from Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) under the Union home ministry. Auction is also conducted as per NCB guidelines.
As per the FIR, the duo were held near a check post while they were carrying 3.09 kilogram charas by hiding it below vegetables in a pick-up truck. They were apprehended at the Sector 26/7 dividing road.
