Chief Minister Narendra Modi picked on the Centre, for delaying development works to highlight the local issues plaguing Surat during his public meeting in the Limbayat area on Sunday. Gujarat is paying Rs 50,000 crore in terms of various taxes to the Centre, and they are giving only Rs 300 crore in terms of grants, said Modi.
He said his government had ensured security to the state, and there have been no more instances of curfew or rioting anywhere in Gujarat. We proposed the GUJCOC Bill to take on the menace of Naxals,Maoists and terrorism, but the UPA government continues to block it. We proposed 50 per cent reservation in the local bodies, but that too has been rejected, he said.
At a rally in Manjalpur in Vadodara,Modi held the Congress-ruled Centre responsible for the hardships of the people due to the delay in the construction of five railway overbridges. Vadodara is reeling under the chaos of these half-done railway projects which need cooperation from Western Railway. But the Congress is slowing the progress by not letting Western Railway finish the construction work on these five overbridges, he said.
He also denounced the Congress-led UPA government for using Central Bureau of Investigation in the Sohrabbudin Sheikh encounter case. When the Congress party workers come to your doorstep asking for votes, ask how are they (Congress party workers) related to Sohrabbudin? he said. Vadodara MP and Mayor Balkrishna Shukla and all party MLAs were present at the rally.
