Navratri is Narendra Modi’s penance period, and this year is no different for the Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP’s prime ministerial candidate. This year, the festival coincides with his 13th year in office. At the state garba venue,Ahmedabad’s GMDC ground, revellers can be seen dancing to a song penned by him, even as Modi shifts the chief minister’s office to his residence for nine days.

A link on his official portal, narendramodi.in,takes one to a page on the song penned by him,‘Gaye eno garbo’. A video of the same has been uploaded on the YouTube.

An ardent devotee of the Mother Goddess,Modi spends these nine days fasting, surviving only on water, performing various rituals, and not travelling outside Gujarat till Dusshera. Even his movement within the state is limited.

In the past three days, the Chief Minister has addressed only one big event,India International Bullion Summit, and that too via video conferencing.

These nine days,Modi mostly works from his official residence here, according to a top official. “He holds most of the meetings at the office inside his home,” said the official.

A BJP leader close to Modi said,“He does an anusthan (installation of deity),rituals, and havan on Dusshera. It is a festival of worshiping energy. It is believed that fasting and rituals can take away the negative energy and fill you with positive energy. Modi has tremendous faith in these rituals.”
