Modi attends Somnath trust meeting…

Chief minister Narendra Modi preferred to skip his party’s national executive meeting in Delhi on Friday, but found himself in the company of his bete noire and former CM Keshubhai Patel at a meeting of Somnath temple trust.

It was an irony of sorts. Chief minister Narendra Modi preferred to skip his party’s national executive meeting in Delhi on Friday, but found himself in the company of his bete noire and former CM Keshubhai Patel at a meeting of Somnath temple trust here.

At the same time, senior BJP leader L K Advani skipped the Somnath trust meeting, which he rarely does.

At the meeting at the VVIP guest house in Gandhinagar, several key decisions were taken, including completion of the “Ratnakar Coast Development Project” with the state government’s grants by March 2012 and repairing the embankment wall of the temple overlooking the Arabian Sea.

Plans to develop the temple premises as a religious-cum-tourist centre include modernization of the road from Somnath Shankh Circle to Gokuldham premises, which has been undertaken by Gujarat Pavitra Yatradham Vikas Board, and completing the Goshala Project.

Modi had brought Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan as the brand ambassador of Gujarat and Somnath was one of the places where he filmed the tourism promo.

Among the projects on the anvil is protecting ancient caves around the temple.
