Man held for extorting money posing as policeman

A 28-year-old man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly posing as a policeman and extorting money from locals in Ahmedabad,police said.

A 28-year-old man was arrested on Saturday for allegedly posing as a policeman and extorting money from locals in Ahmedabad,police said.

The man has been identified as Pappu Babu Patel,a resident of Shahibaug hutments in the city. Pappu was reportedly extorting money for the last two months at various places in the city.

After receiving a complaint that a young man in civil dress was extorting money from people in the name of police,the Shaherkotda police arrested him from Memco Crossroads in Naroda.

Police said he used to carry a baton and act like a policeman on nakabandi. On July 17,he had extorted Rs 1,800 from a woman walking on road claiming that he had tip off about her “activities”,police said.

The police have lodged a case of fraud against him and begun further investigation.
