M S University plans to offer PG course in environmental science from June

The Faculty of Science at M S University is planning to introduce postgraduate programme in Environmental Science from the next academic year.

It will be a two-year credit-based programme in association with GPCB,ONGC

The Faculty of Science at M S University is planning to introduce postgraduate programme in Environmental Science from the next academic year. The self-financed course will be a credit-based two-year programme,which is slated to start from June.

“There is a huge demand for this course at the bachelor’s level and many of our students had to go to other universities to pursue the course at the postgraduate level,” said Arun Arya,coordinator of the programme. “This is an interdisciplinary course and BSc students from any discipline like botany,zoology,chemistry,biotechnology,geology,geography,genetics or geography can apply for the programme. Later,we are also planning to include the credit system,where students will be able to pick credits from other disciplines,” he added.

The programme will be in association with the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) and ONGC. “Experts from the industries will be conducting guest lectures to train them in handling environmental problems in industries with field visits and seminars,” said Nikhil Desai,Dean,Faculty of Science.

The faculty has also incorporated choice-based credit system at the bachelor’s level,which will start from the next academic year. “The students will get a large gamut of options from foreign languages to NCC among the other conventional courses,” added Desai.

The faculty will be starting the admission process in the next few weeks. “Usually students end up doing double BSc. With the credit system,the students will be able to change their core subject in the second year itself,” Arya added.
